Did you know? TikTok has over 1 billion users all over the world, which is major progress given that platforms such as Instagram took about six years to cross the mark.

TikTok Strengths

1. Easy-to-use

One of the things that made TikTok gain so much popularity was its user-friendly interface. You do not need any technical background to start using the platform. Instead, all icons are positioned in such a way that newcomers know what to do right away. All that users have to do is scroll up and watch videos. Such a user-friendly interface is vital in the modern tech-oriented world.

2. No charges for professional editing

TikTok is available for free to both content creators and general users. The social media site gives all users professional tools to edit and add filters to their videos and photos. The free service works to TikTok’s advantage because it attracts a buzz around the platform, collects valuable feedback from the public, and sets the stage to generate profits in the near future.

3. Bigger market presence

TikTok has grown its presence at such a rapid rate. The company is currently used in more than 150 countries and supports over 75 languages. As a result of this growth, it has earned a big user base of more than 1 billion users worldwide. Such figures mean it has a global reach that is above market average for major social media platforms. It is downloaded 200 million times in the U.S. alone.

4. Promotes the teamwork culture

The reason TikTok has been successful for general users and businesses is because of the teamwork culture that the platform creates. Families, friends, and colleagues can use the platform to come up with group activities that could potentially make them go viral.

5. Has privacy and safety measures

TikTok may have borrowed a leaf from Facebook to learn the need for privacy and safety measures in the app. You cannot send a direct message to a content creator that you do not follow. However, if you wish to receive messages from people who do not follow you, there is a feature for changing this setting. That goes to show that the platform keeps you safe while allowing you to control your privacy matters.

6. Loyal user base

Every business is set to excel if it manages to build a solid base of loyal users. That is the case with TikTok. The platform has millions of loyal content creators and users. These individuals prefer using just TikTok and not any other social media platform. Sometimes they even take their loyalty offline, where they print t-shirts and sweaters bearing the name TikTok.

7. Partnerships with influencers

TikTok has a massive number of influencers that help to increase brand awareness. These influencers benefit the platform in two ways. For starters, they increase the brand awareness of individual businesses that the influencers promote on TikTok. As they do so, the influencers make other people come to learn about TikTok, drawing in traffic.

8. Avenues to make money

Social media platforms largely grow depending on the availability of content creators on the sites. TikTok has mastered this reality and put in place measures for content creators to stick around. The TikTok Creator Tools are designed for content creators to make money directly within the app.

9. There is a lot of user-generated content

Many TikTok users voluntarily generate content that has become integral to the growth of the app’s influence. That has become possible because the platform has the Stitch and Duet features through which users can repurpose already published content. With TikTok Stitch, users can incorporate up to 5 seconds of another person’s content within their TikTok videos. These features are all about creative collaborations, which ensure the platform has millions of videos for users to consume.

TikTok Weaknesses

1. Blamed for time-wasting

A majority of TikTok users do so with the aim of passing the time. That has formed a basis for blaming the platform when most users procrastinate. And at workplaces, organizations put in place stiff measures that control people from accessing TikTok and other social media apps until they are out of normal working hours.

2. Takes time to respond to queries

Users love it when they get prompt responses from apps. That appears not to happen in the case of TikTok since the platform’s response time is considered the lowest. The social media platform delayed for two days in responding to privacy questions.

3. Complex video editing tools

Even though TikTok provides numerous video editing tools, some of these are too complicated for the average user. It requires someone to be highly tech-oriented to use some of the tools available.

4. Inappropriate content

TikTok is yet to effectively come up with measures for handling inappropriate content. Some videos and background songs on the platform are not meant for younger audience. The app is also accused of promoting crude humor, drugs, nudity, and cruel values.

TikTok Opportunities

1. Attract tech-oriented users

TikTok’s video editing tools are better than what most platforms have. These tools can be used to attract tech-oriented individuals.

2. Public image enhancement

TikTok has, in recent times, been blamed for promoting frivolous content. The platform can use this as an opportunity to improve its image by publicizing measures that control the type of content users see.

3. Get approval to operate in other countries

The company can approach governments in these countries and convince them to unban the app. Doing so gives it access to a whole new market that grows its user database.

TikTok Threats

1. Tough competition

Tough competition from seasoned social media apps like Cheez, VideoShow, Vigo Video, Facebook, Youtube, and Instagram, among others

2. Change in Customer Preference

Tik Tok is dependent on one product category in social media, any new technological advancements and change in customer preference could potentially damage TikTok business.

3. Governmental Censorship

Changing government policies that create a more hostile environment for social media platforms like TikTok. For example, TikTok was banned in India to protect privacy and data.
