Ram Truck is an American auto brand based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. It was established in 2009 after Dodge spun off its pickup trucks line. The spin-off created RAM, a standalone division specializing in light to mid-weight trucks and commercial vehicles.
In May 2023, Ram Truck introduced the 2023 Ram 1500 Rebel Havoc Edition. The new truck expands Ram’s award-winning light-duty lineup and features off-road-focused interior content and a unique Baja Yellow exterior color with black accents. [1]
Ram Trucks stays ahead of the competition by refreshing its lineup to address unique and emerging consumer needs. Its truck models include the Ram 1500, 2500/3500 Heavy Duty, 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cab, and ProMaster.
In Dec 2023, Ram Trucks Australia recalled 243 Ram 1500 pickups due to faulty lock brackets on front-centre seats. The recall only affected the 1500 Big Horn variant launched in Aug 2023. Ram’s pickup importer/converter in Australia authorized its dealerships to inspect and rectify the front-center seats of recalled vehicles. [2]
Ram outperforms competitors in several categories, including payload and towing capacity with Ram 3500 and torque with Cummins Turbo Diesel. Its Ram Limited model with wood and leather interior was voted the “Most Luxurious” pickup truck.
In Jun 2023, the JD Power APEAL study named the 2023 Ram 1500 the best vehicle in the light-duty truck category. The Ram 1500 is America’s most awarded pickup truck, with dozens of top awards since it was redesigned in 2018. The vehicle stands out thanks to its luxurious interior, unrivaled handling, and towing power. [3]
Ram 1500 TRX is the world’s fastest mass-produced pickup truck. Its 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine produces 523kW and 882Nm, sending the three-ton vehicle from zero to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds. However, the brand discontinued the Ram 1500 TRX and stopped production in 2023.
US consumers seeking the TRX can substitute with a limited-edition variant. The Ram 1500 TRX has been Australia’s most expensive pickup since its launch in Aug 2021. But who owns Ram Trucks? [4]
Who is Ram Trucks’ Parent Company?
Ram Trucks is a Stellantis brand offering pickup trucks and commercial vehicles. Stellantis is a global automaker and mobility provider based in Hoofddorp, Netherlands. In Jan 2021, the Peugeot Group (PSA) and Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) merged to form Stellantis.
PSA and FCA brands were consolidated under Stellantis, creating the world’s fourth-largest auto manufacturing corporation. In 2023, Stellantis sold 1.527 million vehicles and recorded a 124% increase in plug-in hybrid EV sales. [5]
Stellantis owns 14 auto brands, including Ram Trucks, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Vauxhall, Maserati, Abarth, DS, and Lancia. Each brand caters to a specific target consumer, from sportscar enthusiasts to trucking businesses.
In Q3 2023, Stellantis launched the Pro One program to strengthen its commercial vehicles business. [6]
Stellantis seeks to transition its auto brands to an electrification ecosystem to cut its carbon footprint. The parent company is winding down or has already discontinued production of its supercharged V8 models, like the Ram 1500 TRX and Dodge Challenger and Charger.
In Nov 2023, Stellantis unveiled the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger range-extender electric pickup in the US. This new vehicle uses a V6 petrol engine to charge the battery pack, delivering around 1100 km driving range. [7]
Stellantis is laying the foundation for an electrified future. The parent company plans to replace discontinued V8 models with energy-efficient hybrids or 100% electric versions. In Q3 2023, Stellantis opened a new Battery Technology Center in Turin, Italy.
The facility will design, develop, and test battery packs, modules, and cells for Stellantis’ future electric vehicles. [8]

Ram Truck’s Ownership History
Ram Truck spun off from Dodge in 2009, with Chrysler as the original parent company. The brand traces its history to the 1970s when Chrysler consolidated its truck manufacturing and distribution under Dodge. In 1981, Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca renamed a redesigned Dodge pickup as RAM. The RAM pickup was one of Dodge’s top-selling models.
The 2nd generation RAM was introduced in 1994, built on a new platform. It helped Dodge surpass its competitors, Ford and Chevrolet, in sales for the first time. Other innovations include the 1998 Crew Cab model, the 2022 all-new RAM truck, and the legendary 5.7-liter Hemi V8.
In Jun 2009, Chrysler emerged from bankruptcy protection and reorganized as Chrysler Group LLC. All its brands were sold to the “New Chrysler” and re-launched under the World Class Manufacturing (WCM). The WCM restructured the company’s portfolio, creating Ram, Jeep, Dodge, SRT, and Chrysler as standalone divisions. [9]
Fiat Group received a 20% stake in Chrysler Group LLC when it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Sergio Marchionne replaced Robert Nardelli as the CEO. Within 5 years, Fiat had increased its stake in Chrysler to 100%. The two automakers merged to create Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA). This merger transferred Ram Truck ownership to the new Fiat-Chrysler parent organization. [10]
Fiat maintained its Italian origins and transferred its connections in the Italian auto industry into FCA. Gianni Agnelli was one of the original founders of Fiat Motor. His grandson, John Elkann, is the CEO of Exor, FCA’s largest shareholder. In 2021, CEO Elkann facilitated the FCA and PSA merger to create Stellantis NV.
The deal transferred Ram Truck’s ownership from Fiat Chrysler Automotive to Stellantis. In Apr 2024, Stellantis CEO announced that the company will build its first electric pickup, the 2025 Ram 1500 Rev, in the US. The vehicle will offer around 500 miles of driving range and 14,000 pounds of tow power to outdo competitors like Ford and GM. [11]

Italian business lobbyists have pushed Italy to invest directly in Stellantis to counter the French. The pressure campaign seeks to force Stellantis to award a minority stake to Italy. [15]
